Diet Enlightenment Review

This week on the blog I am going to be talking about things I have found informative and helpful when it comes to getting healthy and losing weight.

The first review up is for the e-book Diet Enlightenment by Rachel L. Pires

I found this book to be very helpful if you are just starting out and not sure the best way to lose weight. The author seems to know her stuff. She puts it in an easy to understand format and is pretty straight forward with it.

I do agree with her that you need to understand the science behind dieting if you really want to see results, and keep them. Anyone can, and will, lose some weight with any of the fad diets that are on the market today. However, if you want to keep the results, you need to understand what makes them work in the first place. You have to cut your carbs. Rachel discusses this in Chapter 1.

Each chapter she gets more in depth as to what will work for you to see results. I believe that this book will come in handy over the next few months as I slowly start to drop some much needed pounds. I have found myself making notes as I was reading this. I do this in order to truly understand everything.

Vita Sciences Maxasorb Vitamin B12 Cream

One of the joys of having fibromyalgia is the fact I have to take numerous pills a day along with multivitamins. I am on serious pill overload. This isn’t really a Christmas present idea, but I do have to say that I would gift this to myself to get through the holidays. Yacon Syrup

Yacón syrup is a sweetening agent extracted from the tuberous roots of the yacón plant (Smallanthus sonchifolius) indigenous to the Andes mountains.

It was used by the Incas. In Peru, people eat yacón because of its nutritional properties—few calories and low sugar levels. In Bolivia, yacón roots are eaten by people with diabetes or other digestive and renal disorders. In Brazil, the dried leaves are used to make yacón tea, said to be antidiabetic.

The syrup contains up to 50% of fructooligosaccharides (FOS). The consumption of FOS does not increase blood glucose; however, the root consists of primarily free fructose at about 35%.

It is usually made with an evaporator, like the ones used to make maple syrup. It has a taste similar to molasses or caramelized sugar. In a study by Yoshida et al. (2002), an enzyme solution of yacón was determined to be a better antioxidant than enzyme solutions of potato, mushroom, eggplant and edible burdock.

In a study by Genta et al., it was shown that a daily intake of yacón syrup produced a significant decrease in body weight, waist circumference and body mass index when given to obese pre-menopausal women.

I did find the taste a little hard to get used to at first. I finally started using it to sweeten my tea and was able to enjoy it a little more.

Display Sheet Make-up Bag-Great Christmas Present

In the next few weeks I am going to be blogging about items that will make great gifts or stocking stuffers for those on your list that might be hard to shop for. As always I will only recommend products that I stand behind 100%.

First on the list is this cute little make-up display bag. Even though I am reviewing it for make-up storage, it can be used for numerous things. I think this would be great to store small Lego kits, Barbie accessories, etc. The great thing about this bag is you can slide everything out onto the sheet (that tucks into the bag) and pick what you need. When you are done you just pick the sheet up and slide everything back into the bag and tuck the sheet in.

As you can see it does hold a lot. That is everything I use daily for my makeup minus the brushes. I even have a bottle of nail polish and an extra eye shadow in there too. (Yes, I even love the e.l.f brand of make-up if you can’t tell…lol) The only down side I see in this bag is that it only comes in the navy blue. I would love to see some bright prints or colors that would make it a little more girly. Other than that I wouldn’t change a thing on this bag. It is perfect to meet your every day needs. However, if you use pallets, or more make-up than I do on a daily basis, you might find this bag a little small for you.
